Staying Organized

If you have decided to begin the hunt for your next home, you probably have started to feel some anxiety and the pressure of this decision.   So how do you stay organized during this exciting process?

  1. Gain Knowledge- Consult your agent and the internet when looking to buy. You can find useful information and learn more about not only the property but also the area that you are looking to move to.  Take all of this information and organize it by area.  The more you can categorize your information, the better.  Once you have all your information such as potential properties and potential areas, you can better view your options.  One of the best ways to keep this organized is to gather a binder to section off different homes or areas you are looking at.  Want to save some trees? Try creating folders in your favorites tab on the internet.  By setting up a folder for each property or area, you can find the information easily.  Your agent is a wealth of information and can help you to understand all the information you are getting.  Do not be afraid to ask questions and take notes.  Whether you are looking at just one property or five, staying organized can be key to making your life easier.
  2. Once you have narrowed down some areas or properties, take a look at your finances compared to the potential expenses that you will incur. If your move will include a job change, make sure that you take this into account as your income may differ.  Electricity, water, mortgage, and taxes all are amounts that you can try to estimate into your finances.
  3. Once you have narrowed down your search and have found what you hope to be your future house, start a drawer with all documents that you receive in the buying process. Here you can save important documents such as warranties, inspections, and survey.
